Weekly notes on what is moving in Czech energy — regulation, markets and grid connection practice.

New tariff structure on the MV level

The new tariff structure for customers connected at medium voltage changes the rules of the game. Reserved capacity, demand charges and the split between fixed and variable components are being reset — and with them the economics of every industrial site, charging hub and co-located BESS on MV. For some sites the change improves the business case for flexibility and storage; for others it raises the cost of an oversized connection. If your project assumes today's tariff model, its numbers need a fresh look before you commit.

Capacity mechanism and its rules

The Czech capacity mechanism is taking shape and its rules will decide which technologies get paid for being available — and under what conditions. Certification, availability obligations, de-rating factors and penalties for non-delivery all matter for BESS, CHP and flexible generation. Projects designed today without the capacity market in mind may leave revenue on the table — or carry obligations they cannot meet. I follow the rulemaking closely and help investors structure projects so they qualify.
